    Lok Adalat

    The National Lok Adalats across the country are organized as per the provision of the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987, read with the National Legal Services Authority (Lok Adalats) Regulations, 2009. It has been the practice to conduct 4 National Lok Adalats in a year. It has been encouraging with respect to the resolution of pending and pre-litigation cases. KeLSA conducts Adalats in fourteen District Legal Services Authorities and 62 Taluk Legal Service Committees. KeLSA has 3 Permanent Lok Adalats in Thiruvananthapuram (TVM), Ernakulam (EKM), and Kozhikode (KKD).

    The following types of cases (pre-litigation and pending) may be taken up for settlement in the National Adalats:

    Pre-litigations

    All types of civil and compoundable criminal cases, as may be permissible under the Act/Regulations, may be taken up. The data and record of registration of cases are maintained by DLSA/HCLSC or TLSC under the direction of SLSA.

    SLSA makes all endeavors to promote registration of pre-litigation cases and service of notices through digital platforms/online mode to ease pressure on the conventional system.

    Pending in the Courts:

    1. Criminal Compoundable Offences;
    2. NI Act Cases under section 138;
    3. Money recovery cases;
    4. Motor Accident Claim cases;
    5. Labor dispute cases;
    6. Disputes related to Public Utility Services such as electricity & water bill cases, etc. (excluding non-compoundable);
    7. Matrimonial disputes (except divorce)/family disputes;
    8. Land acquisition cases;
    9. Service matters including  pension cases;
    10. Revenue and other ancillary matters pending before the High Court, District Courts, and state/district/taluka authorities;
    11. IPR matters/Consumer matters/also other matters pending before any other quasi-judicial authority;
    12. Other civil cases (rent, easementary rights, injunction suits, specific performance suits, etc.)
